Manaiakalani Film Festival - Magic Teacher

This has been our first year learning with our chromebooks. One of the first things we learnt was how to carry our chromebook. Carrying our chromebook open is the wrong thing to do. When carrying your chromebook have the lid closed and hold it with two hands. If we need to get out of or in a chair we leave the chromebook on our desk. We have not had one broken chromebook in Room 5 this year!

We have an important message to share but we also wanted it to be funny so our audience could be entertained. We are looking forward to people seeing our movie on the Xtreme Screen and hope they remember our magical message.

Build a Factory - By Kevin

WALT persuade to build a factory on our courts.

I know I have learned this by making three reasons why we should build a factory, and by making a conclusion. My digital object shows why we should build a astonishing factory.

These are my reasons and conclusion.

Building a factory is fantastic because we will get CCTV. We should let them build a factory because we will get CCTV.  Also it would be easier to find the criminal, because the  face will be in the camera. Even it will be easier to spot a fire and our Chromebooks will be safe.

We should build a factory so kids can design their own playground. We will be happy to design our own special playground. Kids will be happy, kids will be joyful, kids will be great. Children will believe they should design their own playground because we will be able to play on our new fantastic playground.

Building a factory is Marvelous because we will get free food. We will get to eat and experience their food. St. Patrick's children will be wanting to have their delicious food. After St. Patrick's children have eaten their food, they might even want to work in the factory when they grow up.

If we build a fantastic factory we will be amazed and excited to go on, and play on the new gleaming playground. We might even get delicious free food. Our school will be safe just because CCTV stays of 24/7.

The Way of the World - Elaine

 The Way Around The World

A group of Children were sitting on wooden gate there was one girl and three boys. They were all sitting together, then Biddy picked a pumpkin stalk and climbed for a little rest. Then they jumped off the gate. Biddy came up with an idea she said to the other boys, "let’s make our own band" They knew that Mr Cooper wouldn't mind them picking some pumpkin stalks but Mr Coopers wasn't really their friend.

The Main Point of the story is that Biddy and her friends made a band a said that the way of the world. The way of the world means that, that is just how things are, even if they don't seem very fair.

In Room 5 for reading kit Kat's group have been reading a book about the way of the world I have wrote a summary of what the story is and what the main point of the story is this is what I wrote in my own words and this is a picture of the main point.

Shopping with my Birthday Sister by Ella-Marie

Today is my sisters birthday and I want to wish her a Happy happy birthday.
The sun came up, over the mountain. This is an exciting day today for my sisters birthday.
I woke up and said Happy birthday. Also I gave my present which was a card and a note book for writing. This is only in the morning.
As it got later, it was time to go shopping for clothes, shoes and jewelry. We were driving a long the motorway heading to Manukau.
I hopped out of the car and saw the theme park Rainbow end with people screaming. But we were heading to the mall.
First was shop number one, Number one shoe shop. We all walked inside the store and could see a lot of shoes everywhere. Before I knew I saw a pair of shoes that I love. I checked the size, and that size was perfect. These shoes are high chucks that go up to my knees. My sister looked and looked and looked until there were nothing.
Next was shop number two, Postie Plus.  There were a lot of clothes in this shop. I looked at every clothing for kids and found such a pretty jumper with hearts.  I tried it on in the fitting room. Perfect.
My sister found one pair of jeans, one shirt to wear and a jacket to be warm.
After was shop number three, Farmers. Farmers was a mixed store with all sorts of products, like school bags, shoes, clothes, birthday presents and a lot more. My sister bought pairs of clothes and a school bag for school.
Finally was time to buy a scrumptious cake, Yummy.
I had an awesome day shopping around the mall.

Non-standard units of measure by Gabby

WALT - use non-standard measures to find the area of the shape.
Today, Room 5 were learning about non-standard units of measure. I know I have learnt about non standard units of measure because our shape was  the same shape like the other shapes but our body wasn't the same sizes. This is called an area.

In this photo we made a shape and an estimation of how many students could fit sitting down inside the shape. We were trying to find out the area of our shape using ourselves. This is a non-standard unit of measure. A non-standard unit is the same objects but not the same sizes.

In this photo we put ourselves inside  the shape. Our estimation was three,  but our estimation was wrong. The right estimation was eight. Only eight students  students could fit inside the shape.

Poem by Kevin

My Generous Teacher Poem

Here's to my teacher that makes good choices, that stops loud epic noises.
She loves Room 5, she's even polite.
My teacher tells good things on parent interview,
that means she loves us even when we are only a few.
She is the best teacher ever,
and we will love her forever.
I like to do homework.
Sometimes she helps me do my work.
This is for her, she makes me fell better.

This is a picture of my teacher Mrs. Richardson.

Wow! What a term. We have been learning so much in Room Five. We have learnt all about the scarcity of water in Africa. We know the importance of washing our hands and that it takes 10 liters to wash your hands properly. That is hard for the people in Africa because they walk so far to get the water. So, we made a tippy tap. This is our tippy tap!

Helping Africa

In Room Five we have been learning about the water problem in Africa. Did you know that half of the world's hospital beds are filled with people suffering from a water-related disease, that means because they don't have clean water they get really sick! Just Washing hands with soap and water helps lessen diarrhea deaths by more than 40%
Room Five think they should become a social organisation that help the people in Africa get enough water to wash their hands.
We are going to create a device that will work in Africa to wash a families hands for one day. That means less trips to the well and more time for education.
The device must........
  • Have soap
  • Have water
  • It must be able to work in Africa
  • It must have a container that will hold at least a liter of water
  • It must be cost effective- People in Africa will not have much money
  • It needs to have somewhere for the excess water to go
We have done some research and have come up with a rather cool device. Keep watching this space to find out what it is.

A Healing Prayer

In Room we are learning about the Sacraments that heal people. We know that people can be hurt in mind, body and soul. The Sacraments that heal people are the Sacrament of Penance where you say sorry for your sins and ask for forgiveness so your soul can be healed. Anointing of the sick blesses those who are sick in body or mind.
We have been writing prayer that are focused around healing. This is the prayer we wrote together. Check out our blogs for the ones we have created ourselves.

Healing God
Thank you for my good health in mind body and soul. Thank you for doctors and nurses who help us when we get sick they are able to give us the things we need to be better.
Sometimes I am hurt in soul and I do bad things like sware, hurt others or lie. That is when I need to confess to the Priest and say sorry to you!
I ask for your forgiveness and that you see I am truly sorry.
I'll try my best to remember to respect the holy commandments.

Amen

Serious Cyber Smarters

Orienteering Superstars

This term Room Five's Physical Education focus is Orienteering. It will also be our Maths Topic focus too as we are looking at position and orientation. We started today and boy was it fun. Irene and Leon came in and showed us lots of different symbols that are found on orienteering maps. Each symbol means something, a blue X means that is where we can find a water fountain and white space means it is an easy area to run through. They tested us and we were really fast at getting the right symbols. We then got to go outside where Irene and Leon had set up two huge circles out of pegs. Each peg was a station and had a clipper that was unique to that station. We got a piece of paper that told us what station we had to find next then had to clip our paper to prove that we had been there. We had so much fun. Thanks Irene and Leon, we can not wait for next week.
